Chester County Briefs: DuckDuckGo Lands Philly on HuffPo Tech Cities List, Kara Rahn Named Director of CC Voter Services, plus BIGshot Targets WOW at Archery Show
DuckDuckGo Helps Philadelphia to Fifth on Huffington Post’s List of Top Tech Cities
A new Huffington Post article ranking the best cities for techies who are looking to progress in the field should move to, has highlighted Philadelphia’s tech scene giving it well deserved recognition. The city came in fifth, just behind more established tech havens like Austin and San Francisco.
Among the main attractions of the startup scene which is banding together in order to grow, the article lists “rock star companies” such as RJMetrics, Curalate, and Paoli based DuckDuckGo. The inclusion of the Chester County based startup search engine is no surprise however, as the once little known company has started to challenge Google at its own game.
In addition to the very affordable $1,200 average monthly rent, the article summarizes other perks, saying that Philly has “the beach an hour in one direction, the mountain an hour in another direction and the fast pace city beneath your feet, to cap it off.”
Kara Rahn Named Director of Chester County Voter Services
The Chester County Commissioners have appointed Honey Brook’s Kara Rahn as the new Director of Chester County’s Department of Voter Services.
Previously the Assistant Director, Rahn is experienced with the Pennsylvania Election Code as well as in all election programming software. She is also proficient in voter registration and absentee ballot processes and procedures. During the past two years, her knowledge and experience have been instrumental in the certification process of election results.
A graduate of Shippensburg University, Rahn acquired an MBA degree from Eastern University. Earlier in her career, she served in a managerial role at Exelon, worked as Deputy Director of the Delaware County Transportation Management Association, and served as the government affairs coordinator and community relations representative for PECO.
Creator of the most innovative archery targets in the industry, Downingtown based BIGshot Archery was a huge hit with the attendees at the 2016 ATA Show. The company used the opportunity to present the company’s full product line, including old fan favorites as well as several exciting industry-firsts.
During the three day show, the company treated attendees to non-stop demonstrations of BIGshot Archery’s new LIVEHunt Archery Hunting Simulator, presented their new Vegas Tournament Series industrial targets, and unveiled its Extreme 500 crossbow target, the industry’s first 500-fps-rated archery target.
“We had an amazing show,” enthused BIGshot President, Al Perelli. “Our Vegas Tournament Series was a huge hit, as was our new Extreme 500 addition to the IRON MAN line. It was great to see many of our dealers in person and get their wonderful feedback on our target performance and programs.”
Enforcement Order against Main Line Bank Lifted
Effective January 21st, the regulatory enforcement order placed against the main subsidiary of Paoli based Malvern Bancorp, the Malvern Federal Savings Bank, has been lifted.
After being informed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency that the formal written agreement dated October 7, 2014 was no longer in effect, the bank stated that it is not considered to be in a “troubled condition” anymore.
Before the order issued by the OCC fifteen month ago, Malvern had already been subject to a regulatory order from the Office of Thrift Supervision for over five years. The now defunct OTS became a part of the OCC during the Dodd Frank financial services reform.
“The termination of the regulatory restrictions which had been imposed by the formal agreement will facilitate our ability to fully implement our business plan and build our franchise as the premier community bank in southeastern Pennsylvania,” said MFSB’s CEO, Anthony Weagley.
