A presidential candidate paid a surprise visit to Chester County that would have largely gone unnoticed if not for a Daily Local News report.

White House hopeful Ben Carson visited the home of Carol and Dixon Gillis in Berwyn for a private fundraiser Monday night with more than 100 people, though most in attendance were not prominent local Republican leaders.

Among them was Chester County Sheriff Carolyn “Bunny” Welsh.

“It was a pleasure to meet him,” she said in the article. “Dr. Carson is very engaging and courteous to law enforcement.”

A campaign aide noted that Carson, who currently ranks fourth among Republican challengers, focused on “his recent trip to Jordan, the Syrian refugees, the national debt and the fiscal gap.”

“I enjoyed my visit in Berwyn on Monday,” Carson said in the report. “We had great dialogue about how We the People [sic] have the power to control the destiny of our nation. We face great challenges ahead, but I am convinced that if we move forward as the United States of America and not the divided states of America, We the People can accomplish anything.”
