Make A Difference Day In Coatesville, Honey Brook, Parkesburg Saturday

By

Volunteers-II-mainMore volunteer hands are grabbing hold of this year’s opportunity to make a difference in neighbors’ lives, and they’ll be leaving their fingerprints all over three western Chester County community service projects on Saturday.

Volunteers are still needed to help clean up several Coatesville parks, while willing volunteers have already stepped up to help collect food and give away winter coat donations in Honey Brook, as well as to create community Christmas ornaments and help collect gift donations in Parkesburg.

It’s all part of the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce-led Make a Difference Day, and it’s three times as big as last year’s project. Local volunteers will be joining millions more across the country for the nation’s biggest day of community service, the 24th annual Make a Difference Day, backed by the Gannett Co. and TEGNA in collaboration with Points of Light.

In Coatesville, volunteers will follow the lead of the Coatesville Youth Initiative from 9 a.m. to noon, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. registration and preparation period at the Gordon Building at 351 Kersey St. All children under age 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers will choose to help pick up trash or clean and paint over graffiti at Palmer Park, pick up trash or plant mums at West End Park, clean up streets, repaint the Born Learning Trail in Ash Park, or plant mums in Ash Park.

In Honey Brook, the food drive and coat giveaway is being spearheaded by the Honey Brook Community Partnership from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Honey Brook Township Building, 500 Suplee Road. Visitors can bring in food items for the Honey Brook Food Pantry or pick out a new winter coat for themselves or a family member (first come, first serve). Coats are available in adult and child sizes while supplies last. Cookies and cider will also be served.

In Parkesburg, the gift-making project is being supplied and coordinated by the Parkesburg Area Business Association. Bring children, nieces or nephews to The Parkesburg Point between noon and 2 p.m. to craft an ornament for placement on the borough Christmas tree after the Christmas Parade and/or donate a new, unwrapped gift for local families in need. Light refreshments will be served.
