Proposed plans for the development of Devon Yards were revealed on Monday. Waterloo Devon L.P., Urban Outfitters, Inc. and Antropologie, Inc., shared their vision for the area in a public meeting. Plans for the project noted that the proposed development is “A unique development where like-minded/like-spirited retailers, restaurateurs and residents coexist and foster a unique environment inspired by culture, creativity and design.”

Included in the plans are a luxury apartment building, which would include 135 units and span 5 stories, retailers, restaurants, a loop road and a central courtyard. The ultimate goal is for the area to feel like a town center. “Our uses match the Easttown Township Comprehensive Plan and maximize the uses that we feel create ‘community’ or a ‘town center,’” shared David Ziel, chief development officer for Urban Outfitters.

While the project is still in the conceptual process, the plan reveal drew a standing-room only crowd to the Hilltop House in Devon. Reaction from attendees was mixed, with some voicing concerns on the impact of the development on the Devon Horse Show, while others expressed excitement at the forward looking plans. The presenters specifically mentioned that no part of the development would fall on Devon Horse Show land but would not comment on potential traffic or parking concerns for the show.

The project could be completed in as quickly as 9-12 months, according to Ziel, who would also suggest the residents contemplate “what the property might look like if this project does not move forward,” and reiterate the plan’s alignment with the Comprehensive Plan. The project still has to go through conditional use hearings before moving on the land development process. The next public meeting on the project is TBA, but Louis Colagreco, legal counsel for the project anticipates it will be early this summer.
