The rumbling discontent of the state’s worst-in-the-nation bridges and quickly-deteriorating roads has grown into a rally sure to draw attention to the plight of local transportation.

A lineup of prominent transportation experts, including Radnor-based Brandywine Realty Trust President, CEO and Trustee Gerard H. Sweeney (also chairman of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority), will unite and headline the Stand Up for Transportation Rally at Philly’s Dilworth Park to champion the revival of road and bridge investment on National Transportation Infrastructure Day Thursday, April 9, starting at 9 a.m.

With the nation’s highways and bridges grading “D” by the American Society of Civil Engineers, lagging half a trillion dollars in rehabilitation and nearing the expiration of their federal funding, the lack of vision is “jeopardizing the prosperity and security that our transportation system has made possible,” a Plan Philly event preview stated. “We need to make sure this infrastructure is modern, safe, efficient and supports the American dream. Our highways and transit systems have tremendous economic impact, and it’s time for urgent federal action and investment in our nation’s infrastructure.”
