Coatesville’s Bottom Dollar Food Store Reopening As Aldi

By

Bottom Dollar hasn’t seen its last dollar just yet —at least not in Coatesville. The grocery store closed last year when the entire chain went bottom up, but now discount food giant Aldi has taken over and is throwing the doors back open.

The Coatesville store is one of less than half the 66 closed Bottom Dollars to get a second chance and the only one in Chester County, according to a Philly.com report that listed the 19 Philly locations slated to be revived. Four additional urban stores and 13 suburban stores will remain closed.

Aldi’s move to take over is part of a $3 billion expansion initiative announced in 2013, and the German-owned chain plans to pay better-than-bottom-dollar for its new workforce, including “’generous compensation that is higher than those of other grocery retailers in the market,’ plus ‘full health benefits’ for workers who put in more than 25 hours a week,” CEO Jason Hart said in the article.
