The Artisan Exchange Commercial Kitchen at 208 Carter Drive, West Chester, is now open for business.

The kitchen is within the Artisan Exchange, which hosts many small local businesses and a farmer’s market each Saturday. With approval from the state Department of Agriculture and the Chester County Health Department, the commercial kitchen and food preparation room are licensed for wholesale food production and are available to Artisan Exchange members and others for preparation/packaging.

Mary Fuchs, senior consultant with the Chester County Economic Development Council’s Innovative Action Team, said the exchange is ready to begin scheduling commercial kitchen use.  Serve Save certification and CCHD food handlers licenses are recommended.

Fuchs said the Artisan Exchange is the home or has helped launch more than 40 businesses over the past two and one half years. Space for food artisans to manufacture their products is presently fully leased.

The farmer’s market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday offers new entrepreneurs the ability to test their products directly with consumers.  The Exchange also helps with marketing, sales and distribution.
