JC Penney confirmed to the Huffington Post it will close 40 stores this April, including its nearby store at the Granite Run Mall in Media.

Last year the JC Penney store at the Exton Mall was one of 33 stores closed by the department store. Read the Huffington Post story and list of planned closures here.

When JC Penney closed its Exton store last year, Joseph Coradino, CEO of the Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust, the mall’s owner, called it “a tremendous opportunity for PREIT. Having control over the JCPenney and Kmart locations will allow us to reposition Exton Square Mall by capitalizing on the stellar demographic profile of the area, which is the best in our portfolio.

“PREIT has a strong track record of replacing department stores, having successfully replaced nine in the past nine years,” Coradino said.

JC Penney fans may still shop at the next-closest stores at the King of Prussia Mall and at Prices Corner in Wilmington, De.
