Schiffer Publishing Releases Visual History of Antisemitism

The telltale signs of prejudice against Jews are literally handwritten in the collected postcards, letters and newspapers featured in a book released by Atglen’s Schiffer Publishing.

The title, “Graphic History of Antisemitism” by Jerome J. Forman, recently earned a place in The New York Times for its analysis of motives behind the “most vicious” of “hateful and bigoted human beliefs,” as Schiffer describes it in the book’s synopsis. The book has also landed on Amazon’s Editors list for best books of 2014.

“I was always attracted to the used postcard,” the author and longtime civil rights lawyer stated in the Times article, which also highlighted the benevolent artistic expressions of Jews stemming back as far as the Middle Ages.

Whether their creators and senders were merely amused, simply ignorant or intentionally bigoted, the vintage evidence of antisemitism has become a hot market for buyers and sellers, the article noted.
