Look For More Healthy Options At Area Sheetz Stores

By

The convenience store Sheetz, which so far has one local store in Morgantown, is joining with First Lady Michelle Obama and the Partnership for a Healthier America to deliver more nutritious options at its 475 stores.

Sheetz says it will maintain and build upon healthy food choices, continue to make those choices more affordable and support healthier options through in-store marketing and promotions.

Sheetz operates in a six-state area and is on target to have 500 stores by 2015.  The newest is under construction nearby in Smoketown, Lancaster County.  If the firm does further expand into Chester County and Wawa territory, potential employees should know the company is listed this year as one of Fortune Magazine’s 100 best companies to work for (number 87).

The company encourages competitive excellence, rewards employees with resort retreats and encourages participation in charitable programs.

Sheetz, headquartered in Altoona, had $6.6 billion in sales in 2013.  The company says if you stop by Sheetz either in Morgantown or while on the road in the Mid-Atlantic region, you can look for snacks and meals with more fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy ingredients.  The firm says its packaged foods will meet the PHA’s healthier-recipe definitions.
