West Chester’s Schramm, Inc. Unveils New Shale Drilling Rig

By

The employees at Schramm Inc., in West Chester, who like to say they’re “breaking ground, building trust,” are this month unveiling a new Telemast line of hydraulic land-based drilling rig specifically for shale.

The T250XD is Schramm’s newest trailer-mounted drilling rig and some of the 100-year-old company’s fourth-generation employees are taking the rig to Houston, Texas May 5-8 for the Offshore Technology Conference.

“We are excited to introduce the T250XD and expand our product offerings customized to meet the latest trends in unconventional shale drilling,” said Ed Breiner, Schramm’s chief executive officer.

“After listening to our customers, we designed the T250XD to help operators cut costs by utilizing a smaller, more mobile and cost-effective rig for top-hole drilling, decreasing the time and money otherwise spent on larger, much more expensive rigs designed for deeper and directional drilling.”

The T250XD builds upon the success of Schramm’s Telemast® line designed for deeper drilling applications, including increased top drive travel, added BOp clearance, and an operator’s control room as well as the ability to interface with remote operating centers around the globe via satellite or the internet. The T250XD provides 250,000 pounds (113, 398 kg) hook load using Schramm’s patented Telemast® technology and is equipped with Schramm’s LoadSafe XD fully-automated, hands-free pipe handling system.

These and other technologies, pioneered by Schramm, are helping operators address many shale expansion concerns, including improving worker safety and lessening road wear. They also lower operating costs and increase profits.

There are more than 200 Schramm patented Telemast® rigs in operation worldwide. Schramm says its T250XD Telemast® rig offers a highly portable, innovative solution to shale drilling that demand the highest levels of safety and productivity with minimal environmental impact.

More than 75 percent of the company’s products are sold overseas in tough environments that include the Arctic Circle, the tropics of Central Africa, and the high altitudes of the Peruvian Andes. Schramm rigs are used extensively in the energy, mineral exploration, geothermal and water well sectors in more than 80 countries.
