Malvern’s rust-stained and long-abandoned former National Liberty Life Insurance Co. facility is now the epicenter of an $80 million transformation showcasing the cutting-edge Sage Electrochromic Glass surface made by French construction materials giant and building’s new owner Saint-Gobain.

Aimed to be finished for Saint Gobain’s 350th anniversary next year, the new headquarters and research and development center will feature 320,000 square feet of office space and approximately 800 employees from Saint-Gobain’s current Valley Forge and Blue Bell locations, with room for another100 people in the next five years.

Demolition of the old National Liberty building began in early April.

The $55 billion-a-year company’s leading North American executive, John Crowe, called the new vision for the 65-acre site north of Malvern near State Route 29 “an absolutely spectacular building that will incorporate all aspects of what we know as a building materials company in terms of energy efficiency and a sustainable, open, collaborative workplace,” in a Philly.com article.
