The West Chester Growers Market is getting ready to celebrate its 25th anniversary today with live music, family friendly activities, and cookware giveaways, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The event will be held at the corner of North Church Street and West Chestnut Street on July 20, from 9 AM to 2 PM.

A brief ceremony, during which local officials will give out plaques to founding members of the market, will kick off the celebration.

“We are going to hand out plaques to the four original vendors to recognize their work in getting the market started,” said Michael Ahlert, president of the West Chester Growers Market.

The market has evolved significantly throughout the years, growing from six vendors the first season to its current 36. The market has also had a good following for the last quarter-century from both West Chester residents and with people from outside the borough.

During the event, Church Street will be closed adjacent to Lot 10, with metered parking free during market hours.
