Curbed Philly: Four Chester County Boroughs Deemed Best Small Towns

By

The Mother of All 5Ks race is just one reason why West Chester is considered one of the most exciting places in Pennsylvania.

Outside of Philadelphia, Chester County is the place to be. Renowned for its rich quality of life, the western suburb is home to more than a third of the entire metropolitan area’s top small towns.

That’s according to a new Curbed Philadelphia report by Melissa Romero that highlights the Philly area’s 14 most charming small towns.

“No matter where you choose to visit, these small towns all offer much to see, eat and do,” she wrote in the article.

Making the list were Downingtown, Chadds Ford, Kennett Square, Phoenixville and West Chester.

“Downingtown has made a name for itself as a charming small town in recent years, much in part thanks to it being Victory Brewing Company‘s home base.”

Chadds Ford was picked for its “rolling hills dotted with wineries and historic sites like the Brandywine Battlefield.”

No list is complete without the Mushroom Capital of the World, Kennett Square, and Phoenixville’s selection is further evidence of its renaissance, not to mention the home of “quirky festivals like Blobfest.”

And last but not least is the county seat; West Chester boasts “a popular restaurant, retail and arts scene” along with “an impressive amount of Greek Revival architecture.”
